Suggestion: Moderated RP Event
I had this crazy idea. And crazy i mean its totally not feasable ;P But hear me out. So Im sitting here at work, fantasizing about what I would do if I was an Anet GM. XD Yes...how sad am I? Very.
Anyways.
I had this idea for a RP driven player event. Think of it as a in game Theatrical Play acted out by various players.
It starts out with a casting call of course. A small list of generic positions (2 monks, 2 warriors, 2 ritualists, 2 rangers, etc) and players would type up their character bios and submit for application. Applications are going to be judged on imagination, grammar, use of language etc.
After sorting through and deciding which players to take, the cast is going to be in a specific LOCKED district, meaning no other players can get there unless they are part of the cast.
Local chat would be the RP channel. Trade would be OOC channel.
The event coordinator or rather...the director, would be in charge of progressing the even forward.
Players are to stay within their designed character and act out the story with various turning points presented by the director.
The idea is to create a piece of lore, some sort of event in tyria or cantha, through a community RP work. How the story unfolds and the dialogue is up to the RPers and it would require a really quick thinking and dynamic leader to keep the play in check. All chats would be logged by Anet of course (within the teams of players too) and later be edited together into a seamless piece thats going to be available for reading for the rest of the community later on.
The event would have PvE monster sections provided through a special quest and the players are to remain in character throughout the even, even if their characters die, etc.

All online games started as MUDs. Time to get back to the roots and borrow the best features of our ancestors. (I still play on a few MUDs, the best of which is Retromud.)
Guild Wars is a Massmog RPG, so I think a little role playing is appropriate. The only hard part is picking a time frame compatable with all players' schedules.
BTW, would it be possible to observe this event as a spectator?

Would love to do something like that... I never really get to play out the backstory I have thought up for my Rit or even my Ranger who has been everywhere...

Though it is a nice and interesting idea, i though i did point out some points regarding the tradition approach/thinking towards RPing in MMOs and why we are unlikely to see RP dists or events.
First of all, RPing is always prone to abuse while locking a Dist may solve it but it promotes the idea of exclusive acess of content even if there is no item involved which bring us to the next point.
The age old struggle of the RPer vs the Powergamer. Roleplayers traditionally have poor views of Powergamers thinking that their only purpose is to reach the highest level and own the most 733T and Uber items and causing overall inflation while Powergamers think less of RPers and call them noob to say the least. What this means in an MMO much like guildwar as well is that players are afriad that GMs (Anet in this case) will favor one group vs the other and provide special treatment which will inevitably result in a uproar on the forums with protest ending in flames everywhere.
Hence the traditional approach of most MMO games is to try to strike a balance and project the image of middle ground by not condemming RPing or supporting it for obvious reasons since it involves revenue, it pays to just do nothing why mess with that?
Though i understand that this is meant to be a community project basis but by supporting it, Anet may open this old can of worms and while some members of the community may appreciate this gesture, most wont and some may misinterupt it negatively.
I have played Hardcore Roleplaying games on Strictly Roleplayers Servers and had a great time and memories but i must admit that RPers are a limited population in any MMO genre and GW is not a game with tools that encourage RPing.
When the general GW populace have problem with even common decency in the local chat, it seems unlikely that RPing will take off with any support from Anet at all.
Sorry.
Edit for spelling
